SEN department feels immensely proud and pleased to announce Miss Nyra Yaqoob as ‘Teacher of the Month’ for April 2018. Miss Nyra works with the low vision students. She is an example of hard work, dedication and punctuality.

This award has been constituted this year i.e. 2018 by the SEN department. It is a recognition of the great effort put by the teacher to enhance the teaching learning process at SEN. Each month a teacher is nominated for the title “TEACHER OF THE MONTH”.

Keeping in mind this holistic nature of the teacher’s job, it is imperative that a teacher who strives towards excellence be recognized. Hence, the nominated teacher’s portrait or a sketch is displayed on the front display board of the department. This public display is in recognition of the fact that the teacher endeavored to thinking out of the box. A teacher is nominated for the title of the “Teacher of The Month” on the basis of the following criterion:

  1. Parental Feedback.
  2. Following Deadlines.
  3. Maintaining Discipline.
  4. Innovation and creativity.
  5. Well planned sessions

The necessity of this endeavor arises from the fact that teaching is one of the most complicated jobs today. It demands a broad knowledge of subject matter, curriculum, and standards; enthusiasm, a caring attitude, and a love of learning; knowledge of discipline and classroom management techniques; and a desire to make a difference in the lives of young people. With all these qualities required, it’s no wonder that it is hard to find great teachers.

Teachers have a very important responsibility of shaping the lives of young, impressionable children. With this responsibility comes great pride and joy. Therefore, all teachers should strive to reach the level of a “good teacher.” A good teacher can be defined as someone who always pushes students to want to do their best while at the same time trying to make learning interesting as well as creative. A positive or negative influence from a teacher early on in life can have a great effect on the life of a child. Teachers, especially at the elementary level, must be very creative with their teaching styles. Not every child learns the same way, nor are they interested in the same things.

It is thus imperative to make a sustained effort towards excellence and motivating the teachers to rise to the challenge. The award is one such small step by the school that hopes to make a lasting effect.
