School participates in La-Martinier’s Model United Nations Conference

Two teachers and ten students of the school participated in La-Martinier’s Model United Nations Conference held from 2nd November to 4th November, 2018 at La-Martinier College, Lucknow.

The team of ten students who were placed in ten different committee of the Model United Nation won laurels for the school in nine out of the ten committees.

Baber Bilal Malik (12th D1) won the best delegate award in the Ad-Hoc Committee of the Secretary General. The crux of the committee was current geo-political and economic situation of Saudi Arabia including the recent murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Baber maintained a forceful tone on it from the very beginning in his committee, and authored each directive passed by it.

Nimrah Ashraf Baba (11th C) won the best delegate award in UN- WATER. The focus of the committee was the Jordan River Crisis with special emphasis on its impact in Syria. As a part of communiqué in the committee she set a record by sending 300 relevant chits to the chair in first two days only.

Sussanne Aftab (12th D1) bagged the special mention award in the United Nations Human Rights Council. The committee of 58 delegates discussed various issues including travel ban and hate speech and passed resolutions with regard to such issues.

Sadiq Ali (11th D2) won the special mention award in the Ministerial Cabinet of Borissov Government. His speeches and resolutions impressed the chair greatly.

Asma Shakeel (11th D2) won the special mention award in ECOSOC, attended by 50 delegates across the country. She was appreciated for her practical speeches and pragmatic solutions.

Syed Huda (11th D2) who was representing the United Kingdom won the special mention award in the United Nations Security Council. The committee was engaged in a productive discourse all over the sessions.

Musa Malik (9th D), who was the junior most delegate from DPS, Srinagar also won special mention award in the United Nations General Assembly. The committee discussed the role of shell corporations in money laundering and criminal fraud. He managed to form a third front against two other blocs in the committee and his speeches were applauded by the whole committee.

Nabeel Akhtar (11th) and Maryam (11th) were considered for a verbal mention in two other committees of the conference, while as Mohammad Mudassir (11th) who was a first timer contributed duly to their committees by his information and enthusiasm.

Over all, it was a great learning experience for all the delegates and the teachers who got exposed to a new learning environment. They not only won plaudits but also pushed their mental horizons to new heights of learning.
