Parent Orientation of class 9th
The orientation programme for the parents of Class IX was held on Tuesday, 25th February’2020 in the Hall above medical room. A holistic discussion on various aspects of academic, non-academic, behavioral and allied aspects of school life were discussed between the parents in attendance, and the resource persons.
Welcome Note:
Ms Rabia, Academic In-Charge(IX/X) started the program with a welcome note to all those present at the venue. Her address touched upon effective resolution of behavioral issues of wards, seeking more parental involvement, and recognition of the emotional issues of their wards. She further called for strengthening the Parent-Teacher Relationship and emphasized on bridging the gap between parents, teachers and children. Moreover, she detailed the parents about scheme of studies and syllabus, Internal and external assessment, parent- teacher relationship, weekly planner and deadlines to be met.
The Principal, Delhi Public School, Mr. Alistair A Freese then introduced the other Incharges, subject coordinators and homerooms to the parents. In his detailed address he set out the expectations and targets for the upcoming session. Emphasis was laid upon compliance to school policy especially regarding student appearance (Haircut/Proper Uniform/dress code/Tidiness), and behaviour (respecting rules and regulations/ carrying cell phone/home work/sincerity/attendance). He encouraged parents to come for orientations and Parent -Teacher meetings.
Registration and allied formalities
Mr Qayoom, Controller examination briefed the parents about the registration and the different formalities needed to complete the same.
Academics and Assessment
Ms. Nowsheen Bashir (Academic Incharge IX to XII) discussed the examination pattern, new scheme of evaluation, internal and external assessments along with the weightage. She talked about the importance of maintaining notebooks and outlined the parameters of assessment. She meticulously discussed the new changes that have been incorporated such as the introduction of a sixth subject, wherein a child can opt for either Information technology or Artificial Intelligence.
Mental Health and Trust-Building
Mr Irfan, the counselor for secondary wing highlighted various issues pertaining to adolescents, and the steps taken by the counseling cell to tackle them. He also put forth various measures by which the parents can reach out to their wards and rectify any problem areas with the cooperation of the teachers. He insisted on creating a trustworthy relationship and the importance of having open communication with their wards.
Co-curricular Activities
Ms. Sheeba, the Activity In charge for Secondary wing spoke about the sports and other Inter House activities that the students of class IX lined for the upcoming session. The parents were also detailed about the stay backs for sports/music, which is beneficial for the students to fill in any gap in the learning process of a particular sport.
Ms. Syed Sumaira Coordinator International Affairs detailed the attendance about the Co-Scholastic activities and various Exchange Programmes that the children can avail of during or after Class XII. Efforts of the school for organizing the exchange programmes for both students and teachers. She informed the parents that the school is affiliated with a number of organizations like American Field Services (AFS), Global Education and leadership foundation (TGELF), The British Council and Planet Harmony. The parents were made aware of full and partial Scholarships offered by various International Universities.
Concluding Address and Interaction
The Principal, Mr Alistair Freese thanked the parents for their continued support and highlighted the growth and performance of the students over the years. He further called for keeping communication lines open through campus manager to bridge the gaps, if any. He also called for more involvement and timely feedback from the parents so that the learning process is improved upon.
The Orientation programme concluded by queries raised by parents that were duly answered by the Principal. The parents were quite appreciative of the detailed presentations, and expressed satisfaction regarding the commitment of school towards its students in the most challenging circumstances.
To popular acknowledgement, it was offered that the school has laid great emphasis not only on bettering students, but also its non-teaching staff. The case of drivers was offered as proof, since complaints of drivers smoking, or asking for tips have almost completely dried up. The Principal was thoroughly commended for having taken the initiative to train drivers and non-teaching staff in etiquette.
