A three-day workshop titled ‘Mathematics- A world of wonder (phase 2)’ was conducted in DPS Dwarka. It was organized by HRDC-DPS society from 20th November to 22nd November 2017. 25 schools from the north zone of India participated in this workshop. Two teachers from the school Bilques Qadir and Adfar from the primary wing of the school participated in it.

On the first day after the inaugural ceremony, the participants interacted with Ms. Aruna Puri (Former HM DPS Mathura Road). She stressed on classroom management to make teaching and learning an effective process. On day two participants had a session with Judo Gyan people who taught participants how to substantiate Maths, where children can actually visualize different mathematical concepts.

In the second half participants had a session with Mr. Hukum Singh (Former Dean Academics NCERT) who laid stress on learning by doing. He said participants need to make children aware and help them feel that Maths is all around us. She exemplified it by pointing out that when mother is making food in the kitchen she knows the exact quantity of ingredients to make the food perfect or when carpenter is building a table, he knows the correct angles to fix it perfectly.

On day three participants had a session with Ms. Nivedita Koka(HM Greater Faridabad). She explained how multiple intelligence and differentiated teaching techniques can make our teaching effective. She said participants need to create the environment of our school in such a way that whenever they are moving in or out of their class they are learning by observing the walls, corridors etc.

Second session of the day was held with Ms. Anita of DPS Vasant Vihar. Her session was the best as she took all of us to our 3rd and 4th standard where participants engaged in a number of activities.

The workshop concluded with sharing of experience by the participants from different schools in the Valedictory Ceremony. Prof. Bhudev Sharma (Prof. Mathematics JIIT) delivered the valedictory note.
